Development of an international network for the diffusion of performing arts aimed at early childhood (0-6 years)
The project was implemented with the cooperation of the Step by Step Center for Education and Professional Development and in partnership with six theatres and cultural associations in Europe (La Baracca Testoni Ragazzi-Italy; Theatre de la Guimbarde-Belgium; Accion Educativa-Spain; Gledališčce za otroke in mlade Ljubljana-Slovenia; Helios Theater-Germany; Polka Theatre-Great Britain). Funded through the Cultura 2000 Programme of the European Commission, the project activities were carried out between November 2006 and august 2009.
The main objective of Small Size, the net is to promote the importance of performing arts for young children (through festivals, performances, workshops, training activities, website etc.)
Within the project, Ion Creangă Theatre organised the following activities, for actors, parents and children:
*10-12 October 2007 – “Body Language in Children’s Theatre”, workshop for actors coordinated by Valeria Frabetti and Andrea Buzzeti, actors of the Italian company La Baracca, in Bologna.
The workshop, that was attended by 12 actors, from Romanian theatres, focused on the following aspects:
O movements determined by gestures
O imitative sounds
O self and collective image
O the transformation of daily objects and their interaction with movements.
* 29-30 November 2007 – “ALL IS A GAME – SINCE BIRTH TO 6 YEARS OLD”, parenting course given by Psychologist Dr. Carmen Anghelescu, head of the Early Education Department, within the Step by Step Center for Education and Professional Development. The Course had a both theoretical and practical approach. The latter allowed the parents to create teams, to play, to paint and to mould, while the former dealt with issues such as:
O How do young children learn ?
O The Diversity of the learning opportunities
O The young child as actor – theatre, learning, education
* 7-8 February 2008 - “JOURNEY INTO THE WORLD OF COLOURS”, workshop for children between the ages of 3 and 4 years, designed and coordinated by Mihaela Sîrbu, assistant professor at the Faculty of Theatre (specialization: Acting), within the National University of Theatre and Film Studies “I.L. Caragiale”, Bucharest.
During the workshop, the children got the chance to discover the world through colours and through drama activities: improvisation, mime, games, through painting and through dancing.
* 20-21 February 2008 – “THE STORIES OF SOUNDS”, workshop for children between the ages of 4 and 6 years, designed and coordinated by Mihaela Sîrbu, assistant professor at the Faculty of Theatre (specialization: Acting), within the National University of Theatre and Film Studies “I.L. Caragiale”, Bucharest.
During the two days of the workshop, children learnt, through specific acting exercises, to discover different types of sound, to use their imagination and creativity, to develop the capacity of self-expression, both verbally and non-verbally.
